Students, staff and parents are once again celebrating a record haul of GCSE results at Wellington School in Timperley.
With 82% of students achieving five or more good GCSEs including English and Maths, the school has achieved its best ever GCSE results and retained its place as one of the highest achieving non-selective schools in the North West.
As well as exceeding the national average, Wellington School students have also bucked the trend in other areas.
Headteacher Stuart Beeley explained: “Despite a drop in GCSE results nationally, as in previous years, students at Wellington have surpassed expectations. We have seen the majority of our students achieving outstanding results. Indeed, a large proportion have achieved the very top grades.
“It has been great to see a huge number of our students achieve grades A*-A and 8-9 right across the board.”
But it is not just the highest achieving students who are celebrating today.
Mr Beeley continued: “The fact that this morning has seen wave after wave of smiling faces collecting results is testament to the quality of teaching at Wellington as well as the sheer hard work and determination of our fabulous students. They all thoroughly deserve their success.”
The scene as students collected their exam results was a mixture of nerves and trepidation, but ultimately one of pure joy as years of endeavour paid off.
Student Katy Chapman, who scored top grades in all subjects, said: “What an amazing day, I can’t really believe it’s all over, but I am so happy. I can’t wait to come back to Wellington in September to start sixth form.”
