It’s thought that the fire started in a logburner and most of the damage is in the first floor flat above the pub.

Pictures showed flames ripping through the roof of the pub.

Firefighters, who used four breathing apparatus, three hose reels, breaking in gear and a thermal image camera and lighting to extinguish the fire. said it could have been a “much bigger incident” had their response not been so swift.

Firefighters were still at the scene at 7.15pm.

It’s not known yet exactly how extensive the damage to the pub is or how long it will be closed for.
