St Ambrose College has achieved a unique hat-trick of county titles across the age spectrum.
The Hale Barns school’s under-16s, under-14s and under-12s teams all won their respective Cheshire cups in what is widely recognised as one of the most competitive school sports arenas nationwide.
The under-16s, which boasts four Sale Sharks academy recruits, beat Wirral 42-19 in a one-sided final, including a memorable 80-metre run and try from full-back Joshua Durkin.
The under-14s beat Caldy Grange 19–0 while the under-12s – who are not officially allowed to keep score – went unbeaten in their county tournament and were presented with the trophy.
St Ambrose first team coach, Paul Howarth, who took the under-16s, said: “No one can remember another school scooping three county titles. When you consider Cheshire has a number of old traditional rugby schools in Macclesfield, Cheadle, Stockport, Wilmslow, Sandbach and beyond it is a remarkable achievement and promises much for the years ahead.”
