Two burglars were caught red-handed by police last night who had been patrolling Timperley following a recent spate of overnight crimes.

At 4.45am, officers spotted two males cycling around Timperley with a large laptop bag.

The males initially claimed to be paying a visit to a girlfriend and gave false details before, officers said, they “got the better of their nonsense” and identified the males.

A report of the incident on the GMP’s Trafford South Facebook page continued: “On examining the laptop bag it was found to contain a memory stick, which held some family holiday pictures. These pictures were not our overnight visitors! On the males being searched, one was found to be in possession of two screwdrivers, which were apparently to fix his friends door three days prior!

“Further enquiries led us to an address in Altrincham, where the rightful owner of the laptop bag was located. Our investigation established the Laptop bag had been stolen from the address whilst the home owner slept within. Glad to report the family album will be returned in due course.”

The two males were subsequently arrested and are in custody.

Officers said that local burglars and car thieves had “taken a true hammering” this week after they stepped up patrols.

Over the course of just five days this week, six vehicles were recovered after thefts in Timperley, Wythenshawe and Brooklands.
