A former Royal Marine has been named Head Master of Altrincham Grammar School for Boys.
Graeme Wright will replace Tim Gartside, who is leaving after 15 years to become Executive Head of the Hamblin Educational Trust, which provides strategic direction and support for both North Cestrian School in Altrincham and Altrincham Grammar School for Boys.
Graeme, who will take up his new post in September, is currently Senior Deputy Headmaster at Victoria College, a selective all-boys state school in Jersey.
He studied history at Liverpool University and completed his PGCE at Manchester University.
He’s also taught at Liverpool College, the King’s School in Macclesfield and Trent College in Nottingham, after seven years of service with the Royal Marines.
The school said his appointment followed a “rigorous” selection process involving interviews, assessments on a range of key issues and a presentation to all school stakeholders.
Graeme said: “I am honoured to be appointed Head Master of Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, one of the most prestigious boys grammar schools in England.
“Key priorities for me will be to maintain and enhance the school’s high academic standards, to preserve the outstanding extra-curricular programme and ensure high quality pastoral care that will enable all pupils to reach their full potential.”
The school’s chair of governors, Ann Balfour, added: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Graeme as Head Master at the school. His strong leadership skills, interest and care for pupils’ academic success as well as their emotional well-being shone through at interview.”
Graeme, his wife and daughter will be moving to Greater Manchester in the summer.
