A new restaurant offering “vintage Indian food with a twist” will open on The Downs this weekend.
Rasassi is opening in the former New Dilli unit but everything – from the interior to the kitchen and menu – has had a complete overhaul.
Owner Nitya Pathak says it will be a “fine example of the obsession that chefs or restaurateurs in India often have”.
He told us: “We are going to take you to a journey to India but a bit differently. Our menu will be full of healthy, authentic and traditional Indian cuisine that’s cooked with a lot of passion and knowledge. There is also a marked difference on the palate.
“I’m very excited and very, very proud to be at Rasassi. It’s a very exciting challenge.”
Dr Vidya Patil and Jayraj Mody, two Manchester-based Indians, have invested in the new concept.
They said: “We’ve called the restaurant Rasassi after our love for Indian food. We’ve taken inspiration from 15th century word “rasassy”, to rasassy someone is to satisfy them with a great meal.”
The new restaurant will be family-friendly, they added, and the changes to the interior would give customers a “massive wow”.
“People won’t recognize it,” they said. “Everything is new, including all the kitchen equipment. It’s unbelievable.”
Rasassi will open to the public on Monday July 2nd after a soft opening this weekend.
The new opening has created more than 15 new jobs.
