Tapas restaurant and wine bar Evuna set to move into former EAT:kaizen unit in Altrincham

Spanish restaurant, tapas bar and fine wine merchant Evuna is set to move into the Altrincham town centre unit recently vacated by EAT:kaizen.

The restaurant group, which already has two branches in Manchester – on Deansgate and in the Northern Quarter – as well as one in Knutsford, is eyeing an opening on Stamford New Road in November subject to obtaining an alcohol license.

Founded by mother and daughter team Frances and Jane Dowler, Evuna started as a fine wine house importing Spanish wines from boutique vineyards before opening its first restaurant, on Deansgate, in November 2003.

Jane Dowler told us: “We think it a great central location in vibrant Altrincham and are very excited to open our fourth Evuna as we approach our 15th birthday.

Evuna is looking to open in the former Yorkshire Bank unit by November

“The site is the perfect size for Evuna and will house a long Tapas bar seating 24 and 50 restaurant covers and 20 outside on the terrace.

“We plan to install new bi-fold windows and upgrade the old Yorkshire Bank into a rustic vibrant Evuna in the style of recently opened Evuna Knutsford.”

Once a license is granted, Evuna is planning a 12-week refurbishment that will also involve structural works to open up the restaurant and extend the kitchen.

Evuna offers a blend of tapas, main courses and paellas, alongside a boutique wine list bought direct from vineyards in Spain.

It also offers a changing, monthly wine focus where customers can try a range of Spanish wines from regions such as Catalunya, Galicia, Rioja or Navarra by the glass.

The Stamford New Road unit has been vacant since healthy eating restaurant EAT:kaizen closed in May.

Three year ago, Evuna won planning permission to open on Ashley Road in Hale – in the unit now taken by The Edit – before encountering issues with the location and deciding to pull out.
