Aldi is planning to move its Broadheath supermarket to a larger site in the former home of B&Q on the Altrincham Retail Park.
Should plans be approved, the new 18,600 sq ft store will be built in the vacant unit between the newly opened United Carpets and The Gym Group.
The unit was formally used by B&Q – which closed down in September 2016 – as its garden centre, which will be partially demolished to make way for the new store.
The new store is 35% bigger than its existing 13,800 sq ft site on the junction of Davenport Lane and George Richards Way.
And the move will also help with its chronic lack of parking spaces – the new site has room for 115 cars, compared to 63 currently.
Up to 50 jobs will be maintained at the new store, which will be open from 8am to 10pm on Monday to Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday.
Trafford Council must now decide whether to give the plans formal approval, with a decision expected early in the new year.
