Former Manchester United footballer Nicky Butt has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident at a house in Hale today.
Police were called to the property on Broadway at around 2pm this afternoon to reports that a woman had been assaulted.
The woman received a small cut to her hand and did not require hospital treatment.
Greater Manchester Police would only confirm that a 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.
But we understand that the arrested man is Butt.
The former midfielder, who made 270 appearances for the Old Trafford club and won 39 England caps, is currently head of coaching at United’s youth academy. He is one of the famed ‘Class of 92’ and is also a co-owner of Salford City.
A statement from GMP said: “A 44–year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1086 of 16/04/19 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
