Altrincham cheese maker’s double gold joy at the British Cheese Awards

Altrincham cheese manufacturer Burt’s Cheese has been recognised at the British Cheese Awards.

It won two Gold Awards for its Burt’s Blue (1kg wheel and their smaller 180g truckle) at the ceremony, which took place at the Royal Bath & West Show in Somerset.

This year’s competition attracted just under 900 entries from 122 makers, with 70 judges reviewing 123 classes of cheese.

Cheeses were scored on presentation, texture, aroma, flavour and balance.

Burt’s Blue picked up two Gold awards

Claire Burt, founder of Burt’s Cheese who also runs The Cheese Peddlers in Stamford Square, said: “The British Cheese awards celebrates the best of British Cheese from the larger producers to smaller producers and we are thrilled to be recognized among them.”

Julius Longman, chairman of the British Cheese Awards, added: “Congratulations to Burt’s Cheese Ltd for winning two Gold Awards for its Burt’s Blue. It’s a great achievement and recognition of the care and attention put into making it and its quality.”
