A 30-year-old Timperley man has been handed a suspended jail sentence after he was filmed calling an MP a Nazi and a traitor outside Parliament.
James Goddard, of Kelvindale Drive, was today sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for a year, after pleading guilty to one charge of using disorderly behaviour with intent to cause Anna Soubry, the former Conservative MP, harassment, alarm or distress in December and January.
The pro-Brexit campaigner was also banned from areas around Parliament and Downing Street for five years, and banned from contacting Soubry herself for five years.
He must also carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £200 in compensation to Soubry and £215 in other court costs, as well as £200 compensation to a Lithuanian police officer he admitted abusing racially.
Lynette Woodrow, from Crown Prosecution Service London South, said Goddard had “crossed the line between legitimate protest and causing outright alarm and distress” and had “set out to intimidate, antagonise and bully Anna Soubry”.
