Police issued a warning to local residents after a spate of recent “hook and cane” burglaries in Hale and Bowdon.

Police issued a warning to local residents after a spate of recent “hook and cane” burglaries in Hale and Bowdon.

Greater Manchester Police officers said there had been a recent rise in the tactic of offenders appearing to use a hook and cane to fish through letterboxes and remove house and car keys.

A statement on GMP’s Trafford South Facebook page continued: “The offenders then use the keys to open the front door and take designer hand bags from the hallway before leaving and taking expensive German made cars from the drive.”

It added: “From a home security perspective we recommend keeping expensive items out of sight from the front door and keeping keys in a position where they can be immediately accessed to get out of the house but cannot be seen/accessed by the letter box.”
