Market House is to close for a week later this month for a “spring clean”.
The Grade II-listed food hall is to close on Tuesday 21st January and re-open the following week, on Tuesday 28th January.
The market itself will be trading as normal – on Tuesday and Thursday until Sunday – and the traders in New Market Square will also be in operation.
But Market Operations, the company behind Market House, have decided to have a short break for a “spruce up”.
A spokesperson said: “We’ve been open over five years and our delightful listed building has taken all that we’ve thrown at her. During that time we estimate that we’ve fed and watered over 2.5m people! We need to pause for a January breath and spruce her up a bit…
“So we’ll be sanding and sealing the floors, re-fitting kitchen floors, re-fitting kitchens, sprucing up the pot wash, clearing out the cellar, refurbing ductwork, checking things, scrubbing things, fixing things, cleaning things, scaffolding to get to parts we can’t normally reach, painting things, refreshing things…
“Hopefully when we re-open our doors you won’t notice, because we’ll still be the same MHA that you love – we will just know that everything is fixed and working as it should be and we’re a little bit spruced-up in time for spring when the nights get longer and the weather gets warmer.”
