Two 21-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering Jordan Sinnott, the former Altrincham FC footballer who died on Saturday.
Sinnott, who was on loan at Matlock Town from Alfreton Town, was found unconscious in Market Place in Retford, Nottinghamshire, at around 2am on Saturday.
The 25-year-old suffered a fractured skull and sadly died on Saturday evening.
Another man, 27, who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, remains in police custody.
Police said they were investigating two “large-scale fights” that took place in the town.
Det Insp Justine Wilson said: “We are making progress in the investigation, but we have unanswered questions. I know there are people out there who saw what happened and can answer those questions for us. Jordan’s family deserves answers, so please come and talk to us.”

Meanwhile, Altrincham FC has said everyone at the club was “shocked and very saddened” to hear of Sinnott’s death.
The son of former Robins manager Lee Sinnott, he had made a total of 57 appearances for the Robins between 2014 and 2016.
Chairman Grahame Rowley had been in touch with Sinnott’s father and the club sent their “condolences to Lee and the Sinnott family”.
Tributes and flowers have also been left at Matlock Town.
