A woman is appealing for witnesses and CCTV footage after she was injured by a full can of beer thrown from a van in Altrincham town centre.
The 42-year-old was walking on Stamford New Road close to Altrincham Interchange at around 12.45pm on Sunday when she was struck by a can hurled from a passing white van.
The can hit her head, neck and shoulder and left her in “a great deal of pain”. She has since been diagnosed with whiplash.
She told us: “I was walking on the pavement in the direction of Barrington Road, when the occupants of a small white van travelling towards me, wound down the passenger window and shouted something at me, before throwing a full can of lager at my head, which impacted my head, neck and shoulder leaving me in a great deal of pain.
“I was also covered in beer as the can exploded when it hit the ground after colliding with me.
“The whole episode was entirely unprovoked and aside from the pain, has left me feeling humiliated and extremely upset that a woman walking alone in the middle of the day, minding their own business can be attacked simply for someone else’s entertainment.”
The victim, who lives in Altrincham, had been walking from her home to the Cresta Court Hotel to pick up her daughter from a party.
She says the incident was witnessed by a bus driver and the security team at the Interchange are reviewing CCTV.
But she is now calling on other witnesses or people with CCTV footage who may have captured the vehicle registration or a description of its occupants.
