Popular Indian restaurant Sangam is to close down this weekend.
The Bowdon restaurant told us that its last dining session would be this Sunday, February 5th.
The restaurant opened under the Sangam name in 2019 after a full refurbishment, but the same owners had run an Indian restaurant on the Richmond Road site – previously known as Swadesh – since 2007.
Around 15 part and full-time staff will be affected by the closure, but it’s hoped that those staff will be offered jobs at Sangam’s other restaurants in Didsbury, Heald Green and Manchester city centre.
Manager Shon Abdullah paid tribute to the “lovely” locals who had made his time at the restaurant such a happy one.
“The people who live around here are very lovely people,” he said. “I have worked at several restaurants and I find here the people are the best – they are very polite, kind and always helpful.”
Although the reason for the restaurant’s closure has not been confirmed, it’s understood that the owner behind the building may be looking to convert the space into apartments.
