The Co-op's 'on the go' store in Altrincham town centre is set to close at the end of August, less than a year after it first opened its doors.
Closure signs appeared at the Stamford Quarter store today, confirming the end of what was the first of Co-op's new 'food-for-now' concept stores to open in the North West.
The store opened in September last year to considerable fanfare, showcasing a new format focused on the food-on-the-go market. It offered breakfast, lunch and dinner options, a hot food serve-over counter and deli-inspired selections, trading in-store from 7am to 7pm before switching to online-only delivery in the evenings via Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
But we understand that staff were informed earlier this week that the store will be closing at the end of the month.
A spokesperson from Bruntwood and Trafford Council said: "We understand that the Co-op will be closing its Stamford Quarter store at the end of August and we want to thank the team for their contribution to the area.
"We are considering the next steps for the unit and will provide a further update once the plans have been confirmed."
No reason has yet been given by Co-op for the closure, and it is not yet known what will replace the store. Altrincham Today has contacted Co-op for comment.
