Superdrug confirms opening date for new Altrincham store

It's opening in the former River Island unit.

Superdrug has confirmed the opening date for its new Altrincham store.

As revealed in March, the retailer is taking over the 5,431 sq ft space at 44-46 George Street, which has stood empty since River Island closed the site in January as part of a nationwide restructuring programme that saw 33 stores shut across the UK.

Shoppers will be able to visit the new store from Thursday 27th August, with the opening marking the latest addition to Stamford Quarter's growing health and beauty offer.

The store will stock a wide range of cosmetics, skincare, fragrances, toiletries and everyday health essentials, alongside accessible beauty services.

The arrival builds on momentum in the sector at Stamford Quarter, following the 2024 opening of LOOKFANTASTIC's first concept store and Rituals in 2025. Holland & Barrett and Boots are also based in the area.

Altrincham's new Superdrug store is almost ready to open

Clare Jennings, Property Director at Superdrug, said in March that they were "excited" to bring "our much-loved health and beauty offer to the heart of the town centre".

The Altrincham opening forms part of a wider expansion drive at Superdrug, which has revealed plans to open 30 new stores this year, creating around 600 jobs across the UK.

The Croydon-based business, founded in 1964, currently operates more than 780 shops across the UK and Ireland. Bosses said the further openings come on the back of "strong customer demand" in its stores.
