One of the area's oldest sports clubs is preparing to mark the end of its summer season with two public events this month.
Founded in 1920, Dunham Massey Lawn Tennis Club has operated at the heart of village life for more than a century. Run entirely by volunteers and known to members as "the friendliest club in Cheshire", the club is now inviting residents, visitors, and players of all standards to visit.
The celebrations begin with an open day this Sunday 6 September. Alongside a summer barbecue, attendees of any age or ability can take part in a free, one-hour coaching taster session led by a qualified LTA coach.
The club will then wrap up the season by participating in the national Heritage Open Days festival across the weekend of 12-13 September. The event gives visitors a rare look inside the club's preserved 1940s clubhouse and a chance to view its two original grass tennis courts.
Sue Bailey, Chairwoman of Dunham Massey Lawn Tennis Club, said: "The club itself is hidden away in the very centre of Dunham Massey and is one of the best kept secrets of the village. Our job is to keep it running for another 100 years and hopefully the more people we can encourage to find us and come and play here, all the better.
"It’s such a lovely and historic part of Dunham Massey we want to share it with locals and visitors as much as we can."
