Nostro Grande will officially open its doors on Saturday September 19th, with bookings now being taken.
The new restaurant is taking over the large unit next to Vue Cinema on Denmark Street, best known as the former home of Frankie & Benny’s.
Frankie & Benny’s vacated the site in 2020, and in 2023 it became Il Cappero, a 140-seat independent Italian restaurant. More recently, Manchester restaurant The Sheridan used the space for a month-long international buffet pop-up in 2025.
Nostro Grande will be the second Altrincham venture from the family behind Nostro Café, which opened on Hale Road in 2024 and will continue to operate alongside the new, much larger restaurant.
At the heart of Nostro Grande will be Neapolitan pizza, cooked in an oven brought over from Naples especially for the restaurant. The menu will also feature pasta and risotto.
Giacomo, owner of Nostro, said: “Nostro Café was our first step, but the dream was always bigger. Nostro Grande is our next chapter and we’re really excited to bring it to Altrincham.
“We know several businesses have occupied the unit before us and unfortunately haven’t managed to make it work, but that doesn’t scare us.
“When the opportunity came up, we looked at two things: does it give us the space we need and is it in a popular area? The answer to both was yes.”
Among the dishes will be Carbonara finished tableside in a large Parmesan wheel, Lamb Ragu and Octopus Pasta, alongside Trofie Nduja, a favourite from the Nostro Café menu.
The family has also brought Italian influences into the design of the new restaurant, with Puglian olive trees and Italian cypress trees outside and an interior taking inspiration from Lecce, Florence and Bologna.
The concept is influenced by the Italian expression il dolce far niente – “the sweetness of doing nothing” – with Nostro Grande aiming to create a relaxed setting where diners can linger over food and spend time with friends and family.
Nostro Grande will hold an invitation-only soft launch on Friday September 18 before opening to the public on Saturday September 19.
Customers will receive 10% off throughout the opening weekend, subject to terms and conditions.
