A Hale-based cleaning company has been named by the Government after 15 workers were underpaid almost £800.
Alpine Facilities Services Limited appears on a new list of 658 employers found to have failed to pay staff the National Minimum Wage.
The Government says the Altrincham company failed to pay a total of £787.84 to 15 workers – equivalent to an average of around £52.50 per employee.
Alpine is a commercial cleaning business whose registered office is at Well Green Close in Hale. Companies House records show the company was incorporated in 2014 and remains active.
The company describes itself as a North West commercial cleaning business providing services to industrial, retail, medical, sports and office-based clients.
Alpine was among almost 660 employers named by the Government last week for minimum wage breaches.
Across the UK, around £4 million has been repaid to more than 27,000 workers, while the employers responsible were issued with penalties totalling £7 million.
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said: “Short-changing your staff isn’t a shortcut to success and we are determined to stamp it out.”
The Government says the naming exercise is intended both to hold employers to account and encourage businesses to check that their payroll practices comply with minimum wage legislation.
Minimum wage breaches do not necessarily mean an employer was simply paying an hourly rate below the legal minimum. Rules governing the calculation of minimum wage can also result in underpayments through issues such as certain deductions from workers’ pay.
The Government confirmed that money owed to workers across the latest naming round has been repaid.
Altrincham Today contacted Alpine Facilities Services and offered the company an opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding its underpayments and the steps it had taken in response.
No reply had been received by the time of publication.
