Dunham Massey is opening its doors for free on two days this week as part of a nationwide celebration of England’s heritage.
The National Trust estate is open at no cost today (Tuesday September 15) and again on Saturday September 19 as part of the annual Heritage Open Days festival.
No booking or vouchers are required, with visitors able to explore the house, gardens and parkland without paying the usual £22 adult admission charge.
The National Trust said: “Join us for free on Saturday 19 September for a day full of nature, beauty and history.
“Visit the historic house, take a walk around the gardens and deer park, explore the mill and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.”
The site will be open from 9am until 5pm on both free admission days.
One of the most popular National Trust attractions in the North West, Dunham Massey includes a Georgian mansion, formal gardens, a historic mill and a 300-acre deer park, home to a herd of fallow deer.
The gardens include the Rose Garden and Winter Garden, while the estate's largely flat paths make much of the parkland accessible for buggies, wheelchairs and visitors with limited mobility.
The mill and stables offer a glimpse into the historic workings of the estate, while food and drink is available from the Stamford Café and Stables Restaurant. There is also a National Trust shop and second-hand bookshop.
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, with attractions and historic sites across the country offering free access and special events each September.
