Two men have been arrested after allegedly stealing items from a car in Altrincham before being found hiding in nearby bushes.
Police were called yesterday morning following reports of two men trying the door handles of vehicles on Navigation Road.
Inspector Matthew Harvey, of Greater Manchester Police's Trafford Neighbourhood Team, said the pair were then reported to have gained entry to one vehicle and stolen items from inside.
Officers attended the scene and began making enquiries, but the two suspects fled on foot.
They were subsequently tracked down nearby, with Insp Harvey saying officers found them "hiding in bushes".
Both men were arrested and later interviewed. They have since been released on bail while police enquiries continue.
Insp Harvey praised members of the public for quickly alerting police to the suspicious activity.
He said: "This is an excellent example of how information provided by the public can lead to swift and effective police action.
"We would like to thank those who reported the suspicious activity promptly, enabling officers to respond quickly and make arrests."
