One of literature’s best-known love stories is coming to the stage in Altrincham next week.
Altrincham Garrick Playhouse is staging a new production of Pride and Prejudice from Monday September 28th to Sunday October 4th.
Directed by Carole Carr, the production is based on Andrew Davies’ adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel.
Davies is particularly well known for writing the hugely successful 1995 BBC television adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
Set against the balls, gossip and social expectations of Regency England, the story centres on Elizabeth Bennet, who is determined to resist the pressure placed on her to marry.
Her encounters with the proud and aloof Mr Darcy initially produce mutual dislike, before their relationship gradually develops into one of literature’s most famous romances.
The Garrick says the production will combine romance and humour with plenty of Regency glamour, and believes it should also appeal to fans of period dramas such as Netflix hit Bridgerton.
Pride and Prejudice runs at Altrincham Garrick Playhouse from September 28th to October 4th.
Tickets are priced from £13 to £18.50, with an age guidance of 12+. Group bookings are also available.
