Altrincham-based E M Accountancy has been acquired by growing accounting and business advisory firm Ascendis Group.
E M Accountancy was founded in 2017 by Paul Emmerson and Jayne Mullock and has a team of four serving SME clients across the country.
The firm has developed a particular specialism in working with opticians’ practices, alongside a wider portfolio of owner-managed businesses.
It has now joined Wilmslow-headquartered Ascendis Group, which employs around 40 people and provides accounting, tax, business advisory, corporate finance and outsourced finance services.
Ascendis was founded by managing director Richard Fleming in 2004 and is targeting an increase in annual group fee income from £3m to £4m this financial year, with a longer-term goal of reaching £6m within three years.
Fleming said E M Accountancy had built a “strong reputation” and described the acquisition as a “natural fit”.
He added: “Existing arrangements for E M Accountancy’s clients will remain unchanged. They will continue to benefit from the personal service and close relationships they have always valued, while gaining access to the wider range of services available across Ascendis.”
Paul Emmerson said joining Ascendis was an “exciting step” for the business and its clients.
“Becoming part of Ascendis allows us to build on those foundations while giving our clients access to additional expertise and resources,” he said.
Robin Hastings, a corporate partner at the Manchester office of Bermans, led a team that advised Ascendis on the acquisition, while Arch.Law advised E M Accountancy.
