Popular Chorlton Indian restaurant Sai Spice opens at Charlie Brown's in Hale

It's taken over all food operations at the Ashley Road venue.

A popular Indian restaurant has launched a permanent kitchen residency at Charlie Brown's in Hale, bringing traditional Indian and South Indian cuisine to the village.

Sai Spice, which already operates a successful restaurant in Chorlton, has taken over all food operations at Charlie Brown's in a new collaboration between the two businesses.

The arrangement is an ongoing partnership rather than a temporary pop-up, with Sai Spice now responsible for the entire food offering at the venue.

Known for its homestyle Indian cooking, Sai Spice specialises in traditional dishes alongside an extensive South Indian menu, including dosas – thin, savoury pancakes that are a staple of southern Indian cuisine.

The kitchen team at Charlie Brown's also includes two chefs who previously worked at Dishoom, the acclaimed Indian restaurant group.

Customers can enjoy the new menu throughout Charlie Brown's, whether dining in the restaurant, ordering food in the bar or sitting outside.

The new menu combines Indian street food, tandoor favourites and slow-cooked curries, with small plates including onion pakora, chilli garlic chicken, lamb chops and a tandoori mixed grill.

A particular speciality is Sai Spice's South Indian dosas – crisp, savoury crêpes served with sambar and coconut chutney. Four varieties are available, including butter dosa, Mysore masala dosa with spiced potato and tangy tomato chutney, and paneer masala dosa.

Main courses include butter chicken, Goan fish curry and lamb bhuna, alongside biryanis and a range of vegetarian and vegan options such as gobi Manchurian, aubergine masala and tadka dal.

The partnership marks a new chapter for Charlie Brown's, which opened in November 2025.

The venue occupies the former NatWest bank building in the centre of Hale, which underwent a £1.5 million transformation before opening as Indian restaurant and bar Gupshup in 2019.

The arrival of Sai Spice brings Indian cooking back to the prominent village centre location, this time alongside Charlie Brown's existing bar offering.

Food is served from 4pm to 10pm Monday to Thursday and from noon to 10pm Friday to Sunday.
