A person has been found dead on a railway line near Altrincham.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called to the line at 7.37am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene”, a BTP spokesman said.
Officers are working to establish the identity of the person and the circumstances behind their death.
National Rail had earlier reported that the emergency services were dealing with an incident “near the railway between Stockport and Navigation Road”.
All lines had reopened by 10.20am, it said, but disruption was expected to continue until 1pm.
It said that trains between Stockport and Chester may be cancelled, delayed or start/terminate at Navigation Road.
