A cyclist is in a critical condition in hospital after colliding with a car in Altrincham last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene close to Altrincham Retail Park at around 11.20pm.

The cyclist, a 32-year-old man, had been travelling down George Richards Way to the crossroads at Manchester Road when he was struck by a black Volkswagen Golf.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The road remained closed this morning on Manchester Road between Atlantic Street to Sinderland Road while police continued investigations.

GMP tweeted last night: “Due to a serious road traffic collision, Manchester Road at the junction with George Richards Way by Altrincham Retail Park is closed while we investigate. Please avoid the area.”

No arrests have been made and police have appealed for footage or any further information on the incident.
