Man rescued after van goes into Bridgewater Canal in Timperley

A man was rescued from the Bridgewater Canal in Timperley this morning.

Police and fire crews were called to Canal Road at around 10am, responding to "reports of concern for the welfare of a man in a van" in the canal.

The man was rescued from the van and taken to hospital. There's no update yet regarding his condition.

Canal Road was blocked off in both directions while emergency services from GMP and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service responded.

A GMP spokesperson said: "At approximately 10am this morning (5 February 2024), police were called to reports of concern for welfare of a man in a van in the canal near canal road in Timperley. Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended."
