Altrincham office building evacuated after chemical spillage

Emergency services are still at the scene.

A large emergency response was launched in Altrincham this morning after a chemical spillage triggered the evacuation of a busy office building.

Emergency services are currently attending the Stamford Green office building on Stamford Street.

Three fire engines, along with police and ambulance crews, were called to the multi-occupancy building - which houses a number of businesses - following reports of a chemical spillage.

One person appeared to be treated at the scene for minor injuries.

We understand the chemical involved is formaldehyde.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 10.40am this morning (21 May) three fire engines from Sale, Altrincham and Wythenshawe attended a premises on Stamford Street in Altrincham after reports of a chemical spillage.

"The building has been evacuated as a precaution.

"This is currently an ongoing incident whilst the area is being made safe."

The building was fully evacuated as a precaution while emergency services worked to make the area safe. The incident is ongoing.
