Altrincham abduction: Man charged with kidnap and sexual offences after teenager snatched at knifepoint

He will appear in court today.

A 56-year-old man has been charged with kidnap and a series of sexual offences following the abduction of a teenage girl in Altrincham earlier this week.

Paul Sharpe, 55, from Stockport, has been charged with kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, threats with a bladed article, and administering a substance with intent.

Sharpe has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court today.

The charges follow the abduction of a 15-year-old girl, who was snatched from a street in Altrincham at around 6.45pm on Monday.

She was found safe in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the car park of the Cottons Hotel and Spa in Knutsford.

Detective Chief Inspector Justin Bryant, of the Criminal Investigation Department in Trafford, said: “Officers are continuing to work tirelessly on this investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident took place on Bradgate Road

“The girl and her parents are now being supported by specialist officers, who are working with her to build up a full picture of the incident. As this is a live investigation, people should refrain from online speculation.

“We would like to reassure the public that there is no wider risk to the community in connection with this matter.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police.
