Altrincham nursery named best in UK for special needs support

"We are absolutely thrilled."

An Altrincham nursery has been named the best in the UK for supporting children with additional needs, after scooping a prestigious national prize at last week's National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) Awards.

St Vincent's Nursery was one of just three early years settings shortlisted from across the country for the Excellence in Additional Needs Award - and was announced as the national winner at the ceremony held on Friday.

The award recognises the nursery's inclusive approach to childcare, which combines close work with families, tailored learning plans and collaboration with external professionals to ensure every child is supported as an individual.

Judges praised the setting's "strong focus on removing barriers, nurturing independence and truly understanding each child as an individual, celebrating their strengths, interests, communication styles and sensory needs".

Nursery Manager Ivana Butterworth said the win was a reflection of the whole team's efforts.

"We are absolutely thrilled to receive this national award. To be recognised as one of the top three settings in the UK was a fantastic achievement in itself, but to be named the winner is a testament to the dedication, compassion and expertise of our entire team," she said.

"Every day, our staff work tirelessly to ensure that all children feel valued, included and supported, and this award recognises that commitment."

She added: "We are incredibly proud of what we do at St Vincent's and would like to thank our families, children, staff and governors for their continued support. This award belongs to everyone who contributes to making our nursery such a special place."

The NDNA Awards recognise outstanding practice and innovation across the early years sector.
