An independently owned furniture and lifestore store is to open in the high street unit formerly occupied by Debenhams.

The brand new shop, called @Home, will be taking over the ground floor of the George Street unit.

It will offer an “expertly curated collection of handmade furniture, homeware, nightwear and gifts”, and create 10 new jobs.

It will be open in time for Christmas.

@Home will be the latest addition to the Stamford Quarter since it was bought by Trafford Council and property firm Bruntwood Works in a £50m deal just over a year ago.

Other new arrivals have included coffee caravan and independent record label Stutter & Twitch and independent plant specialists Plant Shop Manchester.

Debenhams closed its Altrincham store on January 11th this year as part of a plan by its new owners to revive its fortunes.

James Tootle, Head of Retail and Leisure at Bruntwood Works, said: “We’re committed to building a thriving neighbourhood in the Stamford Quarter, and helping businesses – big and small – trial new, innovative retail concepts.

“Our vision is to build a place where big brands sit alongside independent operators, and where hospitality, leisure and services also come together to create a blended, multi-functional, sustainable high street. The addition of @Home brings us another step closer to that ambition.”

Bruntwood Works said it was seeking more “innovative and exciting” brands to take up a range of opportunities from pop-up shops to large-scale units.
