The only post office in Hale Barns village is to close down at the end of the month.
Anita and Dhiresh Makdani have confirmed that with “much regret” they will be closing the Hale Barns Post Office and Best One convenience store, on Hale Road.
The couple have run the shop and post office for 17 years but have been given notice to move out by their landlord.
A statement posted in the shop window read: “We were seeking the extension on our lease with our landlords for some time but they did not grant us the lease extension, and have now been served notice to vacate the shop by early April 21.
“We feel very sad for our dedicated staff members that have treated our shop as a family owned business. We earnestly hope that Julie and Heather will find some suitable placements after we close the business.”
The Makdanis added: “We know that we are giving you all a very short notice for the closure of the Post Office. Please note that this has been done so out of no alternative choice.”
They said they wanted to thank customers “from our heart for the support you have all given to us over the years”, adding: “We also apologise that Hale Barns will now not have a village Post Office.”
Hale Barns’ post office was previously located in the village precinct before the Square was given a complete redevelopment and Booths moved in six years ago.
