Iceland Foods is to close its Altrincham store this July.
The supermarket opened on George Street in March 2010 but informed staff two weeks ago that the store will be closing on July 2nd.
Thirty staff will be affected by the closure, with some relocating to other stores. A consultation period has begun with all employees.
Iceland had opened in part of the space formerly occupied by Woolworths, which had stood in the location since 1932.
Following the latter’s administration, the unit was split into two with Iceland taking the left-hand unit.
In its most recent accounts, for the year to March 26 2021, Iceland revealed it had grown sales by 16.2% to £3.8bn but still made an overall loss after tax of £8.8m.
Its understood that with rental costs and its location at the less busy end of George Street, the Altrincham store had become increasingly unviable.
The other local Iceland stores, in Timperley and Wythenshawe, are unaffected.
