Maternity wear and baby clothing retailer JoJo Maman Bébé is to close its shop in Hale village.
The Ashley Road store has been a fixture of the Hale high street for 15 years, but its closure has been confirmed for August 14th.
The team of six staff at the store will be made redundant.
Manager Lynne Melman told Altrincham Today she and the team were “absolutely heartbroken” by the news.
“We are horrified and absolutely heartbroken,” she said. “We’ve put a lot of love and time into the store and have always tried to look after customers as much as we can.
“We’re just terribly sad that it’s closing, both for our customers and ourselves.”
We understand that the decision to close may be connected with a recent move by the property‘s landlord to increase the rent. We have contacted JoJo Maman Bébé for more information.
Laura Tenison famously started the company from her kitchen table in 1993, before turning it into one of the UK’s leading mother and baby retailers.
In April this year, it was acquired by Next plc and an investment group led by the hedge fund Davidson Kempner. At the time of the acquisition it had 87 stores across the UK and employed around 950 people. Its most recent accounts, for the year ended June 30 2021, showed a turnover of £63.5m and a profit of £4.6m.
