Farmfoods wins permission to open Altrincham supermarket

It's expected to create up to 20 jobs.

Farmfoods has secured permission to open its first store in Altrincham.

The frozen food giant, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in July and has more than 340 stores around the UK, will now be opening a new 10,000 sq ft store on the Atlantic Street Retail Park.

It'll be located next door to Aldi in the former B&Q unit that since 2018 has been occupied by United Carpets.

According to a planning statement prepared by Gravis Planning, Atlantic Street Retail Park provides Farmfoods with “an ideal opportunity to provide a modern store appropriate for the needs of north/west Altrincham town which has the added benefit that it is located in a defined Retail Park within the town”.

As well as frozen food, Farmfoods also sells long shelf life groceries, chilled foods, bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, pet food, household and personal care products.

In its report accompanying the decision to grant permission to Farmfoods, Trafford Council's planning committee said that the unit would only require "very minor alterations" to turn it into a supermarket, including adding new sliding entrance doors and a new goods entrance.

The new Farmfoods is expected to create between 15 and 20 new jobs.

The Atlantic Street Retail Park unit will soon be vacated by United Carpets and Beds

United Carpets and Beds, the current occupier, confirmed it would be closing down.

Store manager Chris Bowler said; “We have absolutely loved getting to know and serving the people of Altrincham over the last few years. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of our control this branch will be moving in October.

“As we prepare to move, our Altrincham store we will be having a Mega Stock Clearance with huge reductions and great deals to be had across carpets, flooring, beds and mattresses!”
