Alty go in to the fixture on the back of a heroic 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town in midweek.

Shortly after going behind on 57 minutes, the Robins equalised less than ten minutes later through A-Jay Leitch-Smith.

‘Keeper Tony Thompson picked up a knock early on and was quickly replaced with outfield player Connor Hampson.

In a post-match interview with Radio Robins, Parkinson said: “The lads demonstrated unbelievable character, I’m so proud of the players.

“What they had to get through to get that point was absolutely unbelievable.”

Toby Mullarkey also picked up an injury on Tuesday night and is unavailable for today’s fixture.

The news has forced the management to recall veteran centre-back Ritchie Sutton from Alfreton Town and ‘keeper Matthew Gould from Nantwich Town.

Both players are available for today’s fixture.

This afternoon’s opponents are currently rock bottom of the National League North, and are without a win from their opening seven league games.

The Altrincham manager said: “Southport have played all the top teams in their division. I think they’re in a bit of a false position.”

“I know we’ll be heavy favourites to win, but Southport will play the underdogs.”

Last season the Robins fell at the first-hurdle to AFC Fylde, losing 2-1 in hard-fought game.

The Altrincham manager is keen to make amends for last season’s shortcomings.

Parkinson said: “I know how important the FA Cup is to our fans and we really want to progress in the competition.”
