Golf has enjoyed a boom in Altrincham this year, with participation at the town's course and driving range up 20% on last year.
Figures released by Trafford Leisure show that 1,763,904 balls were hit at Altrincham Golf Course and Driving Range between April and November this year - an increase of more than a quarter of a million compared to the same period in 2024.
The 18-hole course also saw 33,552 rounds played over the eight months, a 5.5% rise on the previous year.
The surge in activity means local golfers have collectively walked an impressive 335,520 kilometres since April, with each round covering approximately 10km.
Jo Cherrett, Chief Executive of Trafford Leisure, which runs the course in partnership with Trafford Council, credited the long, dry summer and recent improvements to the facility.
"This year's long, dry summer definitely helped to boost the number of players, as well as all the work our grounds team has done recently to improve drainage and make the club a great destination all year round," she said.
"Our aim is to provide affordable, accessible, competitive golf in welcoming and sociable surroundings. Anyone can give this great sport a go."

The course attracts players across all age groups, with data showing an average age of 49. A quarter of players are aged 74 or over, while another quarter are 22 or younger.
The facility boasts a 20-bay driving range with TopTracer tracking system, practice putting and chipping greens, and currently has 600 members. Non-members can also pay and play.
Cllr Eve Parker, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, said: "Altrincham Golf Course is a great facility for the town and the borough of Trafford. We're delighted to see an upturn in the popularity of golf and this fantastic course."
