Hale 10k returns this Sunday with biggest field yet

2,000 runners are expected to take part.

The fifth annual Hale 10k returns on Sunday, with a record 2,000 runners expected to take part.

The event is expected to hit its entry limit for the first time this year as it continues to build a reputation for its strong community support, lively atmosphere and fast course.

Watersons Estate Agents returns as headline sponsor, with additional backing this year from Dr Ed Robinson Aesthetics and Miller Homes.

Peter Waterson, of Watersons Estate Agents, said: "The Hale 10k is a fantastic event that brings real energy and positivity to the village. As a business deeply rooted in the community, we're proud to support a race that encourages people to stay active, come together and celebrate everything that makes Hale such a great place to live and work."

The certified 10k route starts at 10.15am on South Downs Road near Altrincham Grammar School, passing the Clock Tower and St Peter's Church before heading south through Ashley village, past The Greyhound pub and St Elizabeth's Church. Runners will loop back via a water station near Dawes Dairy before finishing in the grounds of Ashley Hall between 11am and 12.30pm. Music stations along the route will keep runners motivated throughout.

The race takes place this Sunday

A 3k race for junior runners will get underway at 9am.

Proceeds from the event will go to The Toy Appeal, which provides support for thousands of children living in poverty.

Mark Durston, managing director of organisers Sensation Group, said: "We're delighted to be directing the Hale 10k once again. It's a race that means a lot to us, not just because of the course and the atmosphere, but because of the community behind it."

Road closures

Residents should be aware of the following road closures on race day: South Downs Road will be closed from 6am to 11am, while roads around St Peter's Church and Altrincham United Reform Church will be closed from 9.45am to 11.30am. The section of the course through Ashley will be closed from 9.45am to 12.30pm.
