Easter in Altrincham: Why the humble carrot is taking centre stage this spring

Events include the Golden Carrot Trail.

Altrincham is marking Easter this year with a packed programme of family activities - and at the heart of it all is a rather unlikely star: the humble carrot.

Altrincham BID, the team behind Visit Altrincham, has organised "Altringham" Heritage Carrot Day - after the historic name for the town - on Saturday 4th April, timed to coincide with National Carrot Day.

The event is designed to revive interest in a heritage carrot variety that was once widely grown in the local area, with seeds being made available to schools, gardening groups and anyone keen to grow their own.

The BID is also encouraging seed saving to help secure the variety's long-term future. Those interested in getting involved can contact info@altrinchambid.com.

Golden Carrot Trail

Running from Friday 3rd April to Sunday 12th April, the Golden Carrot Trail invites families to explore the town centre on foot, spotting hidden carrots in shop windows and solving clues along the way.

Trail sheets are available to collect from Everyman Altrincham, and this year the trail has gone digital too - participants can follow the route through the Tours section of the Visit Altrincham app. Families who complete the trail can return to Everyman to collect a treat.

Workshops at Bounceback Community Kitchen

Throughout the Easter holidays, Altrincham BID is partnering with Bounceback Community Kitchen to run a series of hands-on workshops for children and adults, covering cooking with carrots and kids' gardening sessions. All workshops are bookable through Eventbrite.

Local History on Display

Altrincham BID has also partnered with Share Your Story to produce educational displays on the town's market gardening history, which will be on show throughout the Easter period.

For full details and to book workshops, visit the Visit Altrincham website or download the Visit Altrincham app.
