Historic rail tour to whisk Altrincham passengers to Shakespeare's Stratford

The special charter train will set off on Saturday 22nd August.

Rail travellers along the Mid Cheshire Line are being invited to enjoy a unique day out in August aboard The Retro Cestrian Bard, a special charter train bound for Stratford-upon-Avon.

Promoted by the Mid Cheshire Rail Users' Association (MCRUA) and operated by Retro Railtours, the excursion on Saturday 22nd August will pick up passengers at Altrincham, Knutsford, Northwich and Chester before heading south to the famous birthplace of William Shakespeare.

The return leg will take a different, more scenic route, threading through the Malvern Hills and along the Welsh Marches, giving passengers a chance to take in some of Britain's finest railway landscapes.

The train itself promises to be as much a part of the day out as the destination. Comfortable Mk3 air-conditioned coaches will be hauled by Class 37 diesel locomotives, with every passenger guaranteed a reserved seat.

Once in Stratford-upon-Avon, passengers will have around three hours to explore the town's historic streets, riverside walks, theatres and the many attractions linked to Shakespeare's life and work.

MCRUA members, along with anyone travelling with them, can benefit from a 15 per cent discount on standard class fares.
