Altrincham Today – the story so far

Just over six weeks ago, we launched Altrincham Today with a plan to write a new chapter in local Altrincham journalism.

Just over seven weeks ago, we launched Altrincham Today with a plan to write a new chapter in local Altrincham journalism.

We still have much to do, but we hope we’ve given you a sense of the way we’re hoping to see through that ambition.

For our part, we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response and the good wishes from people online and on the street. Thank you to all those who have spoken so generously about the site.

We’ve been pleasantly stunned by the numbers who have been reading our stories. In the first month, the site was viewed over 165,000 times by more than 37,000 unique visitors. We’ve already surpassed 1,000 likes for our Facebook page and our Twitter community is approaching 900.

It’s only confirmed what we suspected: that there’s a real appetite in Altrincham for local news. Not just bland press releases, but long-form, picture-led news journalism that provides a proper platform for the people, businesses and issues within our rapidly regenerating town.

Our ideas on how best to grow and develop the site have evolved over the past few weeks as we’ve seen the content that our readers have enjoyed the most; we do, after all, want to be publishing stories that our audience is interested in.

Our short-term plans are to continue to develop the editorial style and quality of the site, produce more video content and grow the jobs section.

Beyond that, we hope to recruit more editorial staff to establish the site as unquestionably the number one home for news in Altrincham.

We do though have a vacant opportunity right now for a part-time online sales executiveyou can find more details about the job here.
