The former head chef of renowned Manchester restaurant Red Chilli is to open a Chinese takeaway on Lloyd Street in Altrincham.

The property was previously occupied by The Starving Mermaid, which has now merged with sister takeaway The Starving Man next door.

The new takeaway will be called iCook and is planning to open by early December.

It’s the first takeaway business for Linting Zhang, known as Tim, and his wife Sue.

iCook will specialise in the same Sichuan cooking that his former employer, Red Chilli on Oxford Road in Manchester, is well known for.

Food reviews site Manchester Confidential described the food at Red Chilli as “fragrant, hot and memorable”, as well as “challenging” on account of some of the unusual off-cuts used in the food.

For the past two years, Tim has worked at the Four Seasons Restaurant and Bar in Liverpool.
