First look: Inside Altrincham’s new £17m community hospital

With just over a week until the official opening of the new Altrincham Hospital, we’ve been given an exclusive tour around the new £17m facility.

With just over a week until the official opening of the new Altrincham Hospital, we’ve been given an exclusive tour around the new £17m facility.

Much of the equipment and the artwork will be installed over the coming days, but our pictures give a real feel for the 75,000 sq ft building that sits right in the heart of the town centre.

Although the hospital does not open to the general public until Monday April 27th, the 20-station renal dialysis unit on the second floor is already up and running, accommodating 40 patients a day and replacing the unit previously located at Wythenshawe Hospital.

We were also given access to staff training in the state-of-the-art X-ray unit, which features a new £350,000 digital radiography system.

All existing services currently at the old Victorian hospital on Market Street will transfer to the new facility, including the nurse-led minor injuries unit.

The new hospital also boasts a major expansion of ophthalmic clinics, and expanded adult and children’s audiology services. You can see a full list of services here.
