Altrincham’s multi-coloured Manchester Bee takes inspiration from the city’s hive of musical activity

A multi-coloured Manchester Bee from the ‘Bee in the City’ trail has come to rest in the garden of Altrincham-based Myerson Solicitors.

The ‘Bee-bop-a-raver’ sculpture was designed and created by renowned local artist Caroline Daly, taking inspiration from Manchester’s hive of musical activity in the 1980s and 90s.

It was one of over 100 super-sized Bees that took up residence in Manchester last summer as part of the Bee in the City project.

Myerson, located at the junction of Woodlands Road and Barrington Road in Altrincham town centre, paid a five-figure sum for the Bee, with all proceeds going to the We Love MCR charity. The auction in October raised over £1m in total.

John Hughes, Managing Director of Ask Real Estate who originally sponsored the raver bee, said: “We were delighted to be involved in such a wonderful initiative and have enjoyed our time as Official Beekeeper of Bee-bop-a-raver at our First Street estate over the summer months. Now it’s time to hand that role over to Myerson with our thanks, with many more positive benefits to come in 2019.”

Carl Newton, Myerson managing partner, said: “The Bee in the City project was a fantastic public arts event and attracted widespread attention across the city this summer.

The Bee is now permanently located in the gardens of Myerson in Altrincham

“Supporting our local community in South Manchester has always been a priority for us as a firm. We are delighted to be bringing one of the bees to Altrincham and hope it will continue to attract visitors and create a buzz around our local area.

“We will be inviting residents and community groups from across the local area to take part in projects throughout next year – watch this space!”

Myerson, founded over 35 years ago, currently has over 20 partners and 100 staff.
