Husband and wife team behind Altrincham company handed bans

The boss of an Altrincham-based recruitment company has been disqualified for nine years after he was found to be acting as a director while banned from doing so.

The Insolvency Service discovered that Simon Wooding, 52, continued to act as a director of Avante Recruitment Ltd until the company’s liquidation in September 2017.

This was despite Wooding having received a three-and-a-half year ban in May 2016 over his conduct while a director of a separate company, AMS Search and Selection Ltd.

With both companies he had failed to make adequate tax payments and did not always file tax returns when due.

He is now banned from becoming involved, without the permission of the court, in the promotion, formation or management of a company, for a total of nine years.

His wife, Julie, 60, was banned for a period of three years and six months.

Anthea Simpson, Chief Investigator for the Insolvency Service, said: “The Insolvency Service has turned the spotlight on a disqualified director who thought he could flout his ban by operating in the shadows.

“Company directors should be under no illusion that it is a criminal offence to act in the management of a company whilst banned, and we will investigate those who choose to ignore this warning.”
