Three people in Trafford have tested positive for coronavirus

Three cases of coronavirus have this afternoon been confirmed in Trafford – in addition to the Wythenshawe Hospital patient who tested positive earlier today.

Three cases of coronavirus have this afternoon been confirmed in Trafford – in addition to the Wythenshawe Hospital patient who tested positive earlier today.

The three latest cases had all travelled to northern Italy, where COVID-19 is more widespread.

There’s no more information about exactly where in Trafford the individuals are located.

Public Health England will be contacting those who have been in close contact with the residents and will advise any individuals or workplaces on any action required.

Trafford Council said it is working closely with health colleagues, including NHS Trafford Clinical Commissioning Group, to ensure people in the borough are protected.

It insisted that the risk to the public remains low.

Eleanor Roaf, Director of Public Health for Trafford Council, said: “I’d like to reassure people that the risk to the general public remains low. Trafford has strong infection control arrangements in place and we are working with health colleagues in the NHS to do everything we can to stop the virus spreading and ensure the people of Trafford are protected.

“Good hygiene is the best prevention and there are some simple steps you can take to protect you and your family by washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and if you cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue.

“If you have recently been to one of the affected countries and are feeling unwell, you should phone the NHS’s 111 helpline for further advice straight away – please don’t go to your doctor. There’s lots of advice on how people can protect themselves online at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus.

We will continue to work with Public Health England to share up to date and relevant information with our residents and other partners.”

Earlier, the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care (GMHSC) Partnership confirmed that a patient had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus at Wythenshawe Hospital.
