Children’s play areas won’t be open in Altrincham this weekend – with a “gradual” reopening starting on Monday

Children’s play areas in Altrincham will begin to reopen from this Monday – starting with those in Stamford Park and John Leigh Park.

Although the government is lifting restrictions on the use of play areas from tomorrow, Trafford Council say the reopening is being done gradually as the equipment needs to be deep-cleaned first.

One Trafford Partnership will take “three to four weeks” to clean all 80 play areas across the borough, but those at Stamford Park in Hale and John Leigh Park will be reopening from July 6th.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “I would like to thank all the parents and children for being so patient during lockdown. It has been very difficult but we needed to keep everyone safe and prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“If your play area isn’t open immediately, we are grateful for your continued patience as we need to make sure the equipment is cleaned and safe for use.

“Once your park is opened, I hope the weather is good and that you all have a wonderful time in the play areas. But please remain responsible, stay socially distant, and both adults and children need to follow good hygiene practices to ensure the play areas can be enjoyed by everyone.”
