Local children’s choir Little Belters is joining forces with Altrincham music school The Music Place to launch a choir for 11 to 16-year-olds.

The new choir, called Sing It!, will meet weekly to rehearse songs that young people love, led by professional singers and choir leaders.

It’s already planning a visit to Manchester’s legendary Blueprint Recording Studios next month.

The new choir’s first rehearsal will take place on Wednesday 8th September at The Bowdon Rooms and is open to all voices, with no audition necessary.

Lucy McElhinney, Manager of The Music Place, said: “We’ve collaborated with Little Belters on many performances and projects and when they approached us and asked if we wanted to work together to develop a choir for this age group, it was a no-brainer.”

The choir isn’t just about high-profile performances, especially after an 18-month period when Covid restrictions has prevented singing in schools.

Claire O’Brien, from Little Belters, said: “Group-singing is massively beneficial for young people’s mental health. Children everywhere have missed out due to the pandemic and we want them to sing as much as possible – both in and out of school – to express themselves and to get their endorphins pumping. Our hope is that Sing It! to bring loads of fun and happiness to young people’s lives at a time when they really need it.”

Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 6.30-7.30pm at The Bowdon Rooms.
